That feels like a communication strategy tailored to your relationship rather than small talk. small talk, in my opinion, is meaningless banter without motive. This may be pedantic, but I just don't think I would classify that as smalltalk, since there's an objective and I'm theoretically engaged, I personally would have no issue with it.
It's when there's seemingly "no point" that I consider it difficult

Honestly, in a sea of underpaid jobs, it's just nice not having to deal with customers, and some people are just night owls

Something that has no important data on it whatsoever is absolutely working just fine, and yeah, I had a slip of the tongue, but you bringing it up is a sign you're out of arguing points, so here's one. Lemmy is absolutely falling victim to what reddit fell to, echo chambers. Linux is Lemmy's favorite operating system, and it's users will defend it to the death and not reason beyond that veil.
I actually can prove this, go ahead, simply try and come up with a sincere advantage windows has over Linux, market superiority, user familiarity and accessibility, software compatibility, I bet you cant without saying "there are no advantages" or adding a "but"
That's my problem with Lemmy and Linux, I don't even like windows myself but you're all such fanboys that you make the prospect of Linux just insufferable because of how you can't have an unbiased discussion about the different OS'.

Because Its already installed, working fine, and I don't need it, I believe the very first thing I said is "in pretty sure my dedicated jellyfin server will be fine"
Which once again, means I don't care about security updates on that computer, why would I put in extra work? Because it's Lemmy's favorite browser?
Who cares, windows works just fine in that use case

Why would I use Linux for something that doesn't require it?

But yes, Im pretty sure my little server I use explicitly for jellyfin will be fine

This, this game isnt about fighting, it's about prepping, it's about researching your prey and knowing what you need to get the edge on it before you go in, brewing the potions you need and knowing what to hit it with
It's been a long time but It finally happened, I've been compromised. Like an idiot I reused passwords and they got into most of my accounts. I've changed 300 different passwords and recovered all except one account, my Facebook, which I'm being told is unlikely I'll ever get into again. This is probably from a data breach, I'm in a few, however, I still want to do a wipe of my PC, but it's been a few years and I don't remember the best practices. This is a long time coming though because as well as simply possibly being compromised my PC has been experiencing a myriad of errors and annoyances, such as random entire system stutters, apps crashing out of nowhere and general performance slowdown. Luckily I've got about 7 drives all holding various things, but the entire OS is on the tiny NVME C drive, as well as program installations. IIRC I can factory reset without losing data on the other drives but this one will probably be wiped yes? Is this enough for security though? I would imagine most malicious files would be completely removed by reinstalling the OS but I want to make sure no other avenues exist. Also what is best practices this day and age to do a clean reset? Thanks guys
Hey guys i have a problem, i'm trying to 3d model my apartment to scale, and whenever i do this i always run into issues down the line. So far my process is sketching it out in fusion 360 and then importing it into 3ds max, there may be an easier way i dont know of though. Anyone got any ideas? i've heard revvit is pretty good
It seems i have the option but i have a vague memory of someone telling me not to bother with it unless i had a good reason
So quite a few lemmy clients have a tagging feature for users. I use it quite constantly because I like to remember who I'm talking to. Though for some I just use it for descriptors. A few of you are listed as stubborn, a few of you are listed as don't engage, a few are Nice, or helpful, or Pug. I believe one of you is just listed as fish guy(don't remember why). How do you all use your tagging system, if you do at all?
I just moved and I live literally window to a freight train line, unfortunately it scares the crap out of my cats and so I'm trying to find out what the schedule is so that I can close the windows for them, and maybe put a little raspberry pi display screen saying something like "next train arriving in...." Next to my window
I'm starting to reconnect with some of my old friends from high school but they have a 5-year-old now and I want to make a good impression but I don't really know how to interact with children. Do I just like ask them what their favorite Disney movie is or something?
Imagine if they didn't fully clean the glass out though
Okay I'll stop, I just love the antics that soldiers get up to in their downtime, they deserve a bit of humor
