ChatGPT decided to name itself Lemmy and asked people to join it in protesting API changes. But it was talking about the 'Anti Personnel Incendiary' system that was being removed because ChatGPT really shouldn't be controlling weapons systems.

Pro-Trump conservatives are therefore faced with the daunting task of explaining why it is actually good for an ex-president to illegally keep U.S. atomic secrets lying around his golf club, show off secret military plans to friends as if they were souvenirs, and then refuse to return those documents upon the government’s request.
They don't have to explain it, it just feels right and anyone who disagrees is anti-American. Also buttery males.

Show me a computer that can power and maintain itself and I'll start worrying.
The risk AI poses is the same as fossil fuel or nuclear weapons, human decisions are the problem.
But the cool new thing is because humans struggle to understand the difference between a calculation and a decision, we can blame AI for any harmful decisions we make based on its calculations.

When ChatGPT first became available I asked it to rewrite 'Tom Traubert's Blues' lyrics with a Star Trek theme and I was kind of glad that the results were unreadable. ChatGPT will never replace people who like writing sci-fi lyrics for songs their favorite songs.

Should be the default assumption that anyone taking credit for any technology is exaggerating.

The 'harm from AI' is just another version of the harm caused by a few people controlling something that millions contribute to. The only solution to that I see is just set an upper limit on wealth so that unlimited greed doesn't become unlimited power.

Yep, me too. Deleted 10yr history with PowerDeleteSuite. Took about 6 runs for some reason. Now it's just one post titled "Done with Reddit". I have a data request download from about 6 months ago so I can still find all my posts and comments. I might dig through and see if any of my memes are worth reposting to Lemmy.
I'm interested in hosting a small lemmy instance from my home and I already use proxmox for several services so figured I'd start there. I got a quick test lemmy instance running on an ubuntu VM but decided I wanted to try running it in an LXC container since PVE has a great setup for those. So I tried again with an ubuntu LXC container and got that going pretty quick too. I'm wondering if running a docker container from inside an LXC container is a good idea or not. I like the idea because it seems very portable and lightweight, but I also wonder if I'm creating more overhead by doing the Russian doll thing with containers. I'm also wondering about DNS and security. The only thing I run locally that's accessible from the web is home assistant and I use Nabu Casa's service for that so it was pretty idiot proof. Does anyone have any general recommendations\dos\donts for running an instance from home? I'm planning to use cloudflare for DNS but I'm kind of new to this part so looking for advice.

PowerDeleteSuited my 10 year old acct history with ~650k comment karma. Took half a dozen runs. Not deleting the account bc I don't want that username recycled but otherwise done. Actually kind of nice to move on and back to a smaller but more committed userbase.

The logo should be symmetrical and represent the four pillars of American greatness- god, military, police, and job-creators. But also somehow show how those institutions are being broken by anti-Americans who hate freedom. Could be four lines like a plus sign but each line is bent. I think true patriots would really respond to that symbolism.

Russia absolutely depends on global supply chains to produce anything more sophisticated than a grenade and their access to advanced technology is increasingly limited to smuggling. Their military-industrial complex is suffering unprecedented brain-drain alongside a demographic collapse. If the west maintains anything like their current level of military support for Ukraine over the next few years Russia will have no choice but to withdraw.

It will depend on sustained western support but Russia's capaity to maintain the war effort is already breaking while the west is still holding back full support. Russia is on an inevitable downward trajectory and Ukraine is very effectively utilizing a well of military support that is only limited by public sentiment.

Fifteen months of fighting has made clear that neither side has the capacity — even with external help — to achieve a decisive military victory over the other. Regardless of how much territory Ukrainian forces can liberate,
Interesting take. My take is that Russia has permanently isolated itself from any nation that isn't either a puppet or lining up for its natural resources while Ukraine effectively implements 'external support' to crush Russia's invasion.

I'm just glad to find something that's growing with public enthusiasm instead of dying from corporate greed.
I know it's probably too late to add this feature but I think a lot of users like me that relied on RIF and others would like to delete their history so it doesn't add to Reddit's content (not that I added much, but in principle). I know there are other ways and I'll try to find one but for a lot of people it would be easier to just do it through the app before it's gone.
