Such a valid point; success should not be measured only in dollars. I began explaining the basics of the Fediverse with some of my friends and the first question they asked was, “How do people even make money on there then?” It’s a bit disheartening to see how money-driven things are for some people.

It’s strange, I downloaded a gif to my photo and selected it as an image for a Memmy post. The post worked and was upvoted so others must see it. But the actual gif is not visible on Memmy. The gif does play on a mobile browser though.
I want to try posting a direct link to a gif and see what it looks like. Can you see the gif below?
It looks like you need to use the format:

So far it seems that the admins will make posts when they’re considering new ones. I think the need for committed moderators may be the challenge for adding new ones. You could always find a community on a different Lemmy instance or create a community on an instance that has that enabled.

I agree, I would rather see the community on the left with the instance in smaller/non-bold text below it, and user to the right without the instance of the user until you click the post.
The social benefits are great and I heard the flag is a big plus

Thank you. It’s not a common acronym; I just didn’t see a way I wanted to shorten it haha.
Outside of this post with the link, people that search “addiction” would probably see the community. I posted essentially this same post in other instances’ chat communities, and made sure this new community was discoverable by lemmy.world, beehaw.org, vlemmy.net, lemmy.one, and kbin.social. I also asked that the mental health community lists this as a “related community.”

Please direct me to a different place to post if this would be better suited elsewhere.

Hi everyone, my name is loopy and I created this lemmy community to make a space for people to share and support each other through the challenges of having a friend or family member struggling with addiction. As the sidebar says, this is not to replace therapy; think of it like an online support group. I’ll get the ball rolling a little bit by sharing that my BIL has been struggling with addiction. First to opioids, then to his Adderall prescription. The mood swings are an understatement. I get glimpses of sobriety but then the cycles continue. It honestly gets pretty exhausting to keep trying to have empathy only to be let down again. My wife and my focus lately has been setting boundaries. He knows how to manipulate my wife, so I said that we all need to be present when deciding something (eg if he is staying at our house for the weekend). It feels uncomfortable for her, but it has been minimizing the stress. I have learned the valuable lesson of keeping yourself safe and well first. This is basically not possible for my wife to set this boundary with him, so my role has been a lot of reassurance and being consistent. Another essential lesson we have discovered is to distinctly define roles. We are not therapists and cannot be a detox center. We have literally tried because he talked us into it. The last recent thing we concluded is that the whole process has to be their decision. No matter how badly we want for him to succeed and how many ways we facilitate that success, if he doesn’t want to do it, he will find any excuse not to follow through. Actions are the only way to measure progress (words and promises aren’t worth much), and he must follow through first. We love him and truly wish for him to thrive in life. It is heartbreaking to see the lows, but as long as we don’t compromise on our own well-being, we will continue supporting him on his journey to recovery. How have you all managed? How has addiction affected your life? Personally, I would love nothing more than to see some success stories to encourage others, but I know those are sometimes rare.

I created a community on vLemmy maybe a couple of days ago on a mobile browser, so it was working at that time. It seems like the last 24 hours or so have been pretty sluggish on a few different instances.m, maybe from the spike in users.

I found beehaw first, so I started there but then discovered that the admins manage the community creation there. So I made a new account on lemmy.world to mod that, and most browsed with my beehaw account. But then beehaw needed to de-federate from lemmy.world, so I made a vLemmy and lemmy.one accounts so I could interact with both beehaw and lemmy.world.
tl;dr As someone else mentioned, finding a smaller, low-profile instance to have your home account but interacting with other instances seems to be the best approach

That is odd. I used my vLemmy account and was able to search and find that community with wefwef and the mobile browser.
I haven’t read the entire guide, but if no one from your home instance has searched for a certain community on another instance, it won’t find it until someone searches with the full instance name to initialize the connection. For example, if no one from vLemmy has done this for that Education community, I would need to go to Communities > select All > search “!education@lemmy.world” and wait for the spinning wheel. It’s not intuitive, but after a few seconds vLemmy connects with that community and can now be searched. So you delete your search text, keep All selected, but now can just search “education” and it should become visible with the option to subscribe.
Let me know whether that helps or you’re still getting stuck.

I may be a little biased because I mod it ;)

I think the date is because July 1st is the beginning of a new fiscal year for many companies. I’m not sure why they may have changed terms of service, but my guess is that the companies are required to publish updates at the beginning of the fiscal year.

Wow, I’ve never heard of wefwef before. For being a web app, it really does have a similar UI to Apollo. And it’s pretty snappy.
I agree, Memmy is still my favorite but I’m going to try wefwef. And I’m still watching Mlem as it develops.

I have had a good experience with Post Images so far. The free accounts are more than enough space. And they provide a direct link to the image for posting.

That’s good to know. I just submitted a beta feedback for that issue as well.

Thank you both for the answers. I kind of like the screenshots you sent, even as-is. Just my opinion, but I think it could be released with a (beta) tag and users could give feedback as you research it more. The app is only available as a beta right now, so I would think users understand that things are not 100% polished.

So I worked at a plasma donation center and in a hospital. I will tell you that the training at the place I was at was very brief and you are somewhat practice for many new phlebotomists. I will also say I cared for at least two patients that were hospitalized after people missed their sticks at the donation centers and the patients had huge vascular issues after that.
That being said many people do it and it turns out just fine. It’s easy money if you can tolerate it. But I would not recommend it, as it can eventually cause scarring to your veins and it may be difficult to start an IV when you are older and actually really need that access site.
I would really like to have high contrast dark and light themes. Something like the Night Owl theme but with secondary colors of neon orange, purple, green, etc. And the light could be beige with dark brown, green, and blue. I couldn’t find pictures of a good example. I know there is a ton of work going into the actual development of the app functionality, so I understand it may take a while before this is considered, but the accessibility would be nice for people with visual difficultly.

The short answer is: probably not.
I have seen Quest and LabCorp widely used in hospitals. If you look at the bottom of each organization’s page, there should be a credentials or certification that they are each certified through. Search the credentialing agency and see if they are legitimate (with Britannica or other encyclopedia). There may be very small differences in level of accuracy but they generally all have to meet a minimal acceptable standard.

I’m new to using Matrix and currently use Element on iOS as a client. The [Matrix specs page](https://spec.matrix.org/latest/) notes that there is “optional” end-to-end encryption, but I don’t see an option for that. I’m just wondering if it’s a client limitation for the moment or if it’s enabled by default, and how secure the messaging is. I would love to learn how it works so I can possibly replace some other group chat apps with friends and family.
