Oh boy. How healthy is the project at the moment? I think when I found it last year the community was super active. I stopped paying attention to it but always had a fear that the community may have imploded due to retarded drama or burned itself out.

Tell me about it. Don't you love searching your problem in a Discord server, finding someone asked about it then having to read through a hundred banter and meme only to find out no one answered the answer and you just wasted minutes of your life shoving shits in digital form into your brain.

What's more infuriating is Discord is a closed garden by design. The chat logs are not indexed by any search engine. You can only access the information if you join the server and if the server is gone for any reason, it brings all the information with it. Yeah, good luck hosting your "community" on that crap.

I really hope Discord is next to feel the pinch with the free money faucet turned off.

Yeah the front end looks neat at a glance but the more I learn about it the more I'm considering stay away from it at least in its current state. It's still super early into development and I'm not a big fan of PHP either.

People keep praising federation and decentralization and yadda yadda yadda without noticing the elephant in the room: The owner of an instance can block other instances, therefore denying its users from contents solely because they choose to do so.

This is extremely problematic for me because an instance is not only a community by itself, but also supposed to be a window into the Fediverse for its users. For those who came from Reddit, can you imagine using a reddit third party client only to find out they don't allow you to view certain subreddits for whatever reason?
