Is this for Mail Plus or Proton Unlimited? I pay for Mail Plus, and have continually gotten the "P2P is blocked" page whenever I try to redownload the Ubuntu 22.04 ISO--maybe I should complain

Although looking at the VPN section, it does appear that the Free and Mail Plus plans have the same checkboxes, so perhaps I am reading it correctly

    This is correct

Update: I have used Mail Plus since before Proton VPN was a thing, and have never been able to P2P download--Proton should make this clearer

When I'm using FreeCAD, I'll use a spreadsheet for all of my variables, so everything is linked together by formulas. Next, I'll use datum planes rather than drawing directly on object faces (which completely solves topological naming), although I wouldn't attach the plane to the surface--just geometrically define the distance and angle in the spreadsheet and reference it directly (e.g. if I want a datum plane halfway up my object, I'll make its height h/2)

Do you have any tips using KDE Connect with a local VPN (Wireguard)? It works great for me on the same network, but unfortunately fails to connect outside of my network despite one (or both) devices connected to my VPN

Protonmail--I've used them for my custom domain email for the last 4 years and have had very few problems (other than needing to recompile the Protonmail Bridge app so I could use it on an ARM server)--I think I pay around $50/year. I selfhost Nextcloud for everything else (files, calendar, news, etc.)

I was so surprised by how easy it was to install Yacy--I'd thought a self-hosted search engine would be tough, but I made a docker-compose file and pointed my reverse proxy to the server, works perfectly so far!

This post got me looking at their offerings again, and it looks like they have a $100 Air SE--if it's the same ceramic heater design I'd say it's well worth it

Arizer. Solid Canadian company, they've been making vaporizers for two decades, and they have a wide selection of different types.

My (original) Arizer Air has gotten more use than I'm willing to admit over the past 5 years, and while it's starting to show its age, but still working without a hitch. If it gave out tomorrow, I'd go order the new Air (2? Max? not certain) with USB-C charging and a digital display, although neither of those features are essential!

For my SLS running EndeavourOS it works flawlessly...but not out of the box! I had to search and install the proper codecs to stop YouTube in Firefox from using all my CPU

I'm also using Plasma 5 on my Surface Laptop Studio! Wayland brought a lot of touch advances, but unfortunately the onscreen keyboard still does not work with every application. Personally, I think KDE Plasma is great for convertibles/touchscreen laptops, but still has a ways to go before I'm comfortable using it with touch on the Surface. Windows 11 is still the best "touch-optimized desktop environment" I've used, unfortunately, but I'm expecting good things as more apps are ported to Wayland!

Yes and no. As my physics professor used to say, all models are wrong, our goal is to make the least wrong model. It's literally impossible to simulate every event. For example, what if there was an anthill under the area where the rock is dropped? Maybe that will affect the resulting sound? Maybe, but it's not going to make a difference to the observer.

We know enough physics to simulate a huge number of simultaneous events, but at some point a model becomes far too complicated (e.g. taking a week to run on a powerful computer), when a more simplified model will do the trick just fine. I personally compare it to FLAC and MP3--FLAC is of course best quality, but will eat up a ton of storage space, and MP3 (with compression) is good enough

Very true--the specific EOS repo has given me a bit of trouble in the past, but it takes like 3 commands to remove it and then you've got just arch (although some purests may disagree 🤣)

I disagree--a system (even Arch!) should be able to update after a couple months and not break! I recently booted an EndeavourOS image after 6 months and was able to update it properly, although I needed to completely rebuild the keyring first

A common Google "hack" to get actual results it to add "site:reddit.com" after a search term--Lemmy, however is spread across a ton of instances. I was wondering whether there's a selfhosted search engine that is able to index lemmy posts from a certain number of instances (set manually) and that can be used to search for certain terms--is such a program being worked on? Or is it best to simply use the lemmy search bar on my instance?

Cannot subscribe to communities since the v18 update

Since the update to Version 18, I have been unable to subscribe to any communities (local and federated), with the subscribe button simply not appearing. I am using Firefox 114.0.2 with uBlock Origin running. Anyone know what I might do to fix this issue? Thanks!!! Edit1: Just tried the same process using Brave Browser, and experiencing the same issue: ![](https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/eae7503a-fb16-4e1b-a3fc-ef05e4a9e092.png) Edit2: @floofloof's workaround of searching for the community via the "communities" tab seems to work intermittently on both Chrome and Firefox!

When mindlessly browsing Reddit, I found that I usually just jump directly to the comments, read a couple, and continue. Lemmy seems a bit more curated (read: smaller), and therefore it's easier to actually engage in discussions, which leads me to read the article, think critically about it, and respond (if I have something to say) in the comments--bigger is not always better!

I have owned Surface devices since the first Pro in 2013. In order of release date (but not necessarily the date I acquired them), I have owned a Surface RT, Surface Pro 1, Surface Pro 2, Surface 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Book 2 (15"), Surface Go (1), and, most recently, the Surface Laptop Studio. Needless to say, I absolutely love the hardware (hardware) of these devices and am looking forward to discussions and troubleshooting with fellow surface enthusiasts!!! Also actively recruiting mods
