There's a certain something to giving people cash versus a gift card.

For one, cash today is almost an inconvenience, a lot of places don't accept cash.

The other element to it is that gift cards need to be used for specific things, while cash is often seen as something to just toss in a bank account and use for necessities or forget about. If the goal of the gift-giver is for the recipient to treat themselves to something, a gift card helps set some limits. Or if the goal is to get something related to someone's hobby but you don't know enough about what to get them, the gift card is an option.

I don't hate getting cash as a gift, but I am going to be honest that it is not going to get spent on anything nice. It's going to rent and groceries and whatever is left gets tossed into savings.

I'm not much of a gift card giver, but there have been a few times where I gave Steam gift cards as a gift for friends who are into games but I don't know exactly what they want.

Putin is also pulling comparable numbers as Bibi in Ukraine, though that conflict has been going on for a little bit longer than the one in Gaza. But that's also not counting how many of his own men he sent to their deaths, which is estimated to be over 100,000.

Henry Kissinger would also be on this list but thankfully it's been almost a year since his long-awaited demise.

And that's really only looking at conflict. Not factoring in others who are responsible for large-scale humanitarian crises that may end up killing many more people just from disease or starvation.

I don't know how much I'd rely on Americans abroad as a voting bloc, though. From my own experience as one such person, you're just as likely to have people who want positive outcomes in the US as negative ones.

A lot of expats might maintain ties to the US and still care about American issues, but I know a heck of a lot of them don't care at all. A lot of Americans left the US because they hate it there and might even prefer it if the election makes things worse. Not that such people would be likely to vote anyways, but you're not going to find consistent voting trends from people living abroad, even if as a sum they are greater than the margin of error of some elections.

Sometimes I wonder if they shouldn't just take a page out of the design for Minecraft Dungeons. Not that they should directly import the gameplay or the mechanics, but even just having more gear variety, more sorts of effects that things can provide, more weapon types, etc.

Having some mechanic to respawn with your stuff when you die would also be nice. It's hard for combat to be a "thing" when the consequence for doing badly is losing everything and starting from scratch. Some people prefer that, but it doesn't really encourage risk taking, so for most people the easier approach to combat becomes "don't".

Same thoughts here. I don't have much faith in a dramatic change at the 11th hour, since I feel like Harris is really a lot more establishment than she wants people to believe while she's out campaigning, but I am holding out some shred of hope that she might see reason and change course with enough pressure, which is more than I can say for the alternative.
