There's no way people are tasting what I am. If there's a salad on the other side of the table with coriander in it, I get a waft of soap so strong that my brain shivers while everyone else smells nothing at all.
I have a very expansive pallette but coriander is totally inedible. Nothing tastes like it. (although, I don't notice it so much if it's cooked)

what also isn't being considered is that the contradictions at home in Western countries were being pushed to the limits and people were living very insecure existences - ripe for disorder - so there was a lot of communist support at home in the west.

Hello all. I won a bursary to write and produce a very small budget 5-10 minute film. I pitched an idea to them, but I've realised that I'm not sure how viable the scope of my idea was - it was overambitious from me. The people who gave me the bursary are fine with me doing anything sort of relevant to my pitch, but that would be overcomplicating things to get all of you in on the details. I was so excited to do it, but now I'm slightly anxious about what I'm going to do. Anyone got some good short-short films to share? I'm open to anything, but the vibe is 'serious/activist' I suppose. I do like comedy though. I'm much more comfortable writing comedy, really. Or something arthousey.
TLDR: How do you treat 'pleasant' reactionaries? Long story short my cousin was visiting, but couldn't make it. My family asked if I could show his friends around regardless, and of course I was happy to oblige. I knew they were going to be sort of rich frat-bro poli-sci stereotypes from the outset, maybe a little bit ghoulish, but nevertheless I find Americans very entertaining in their ways and I'm a nice fella so I took them to some bars and some comedy. Conversation didn't exactly flooowwwww, but what can you expect meeting someone for the first time? I can't tell if they had no opinions about anything or were embarrassed about the opinions they did have. And then I found out that they were descendants of CIA/NYPD. I'm now going to be a joyless communist: I just knew they were bubbling with totally oblivious reactionary ideology, but outwardly they were very pleasant and enthusiastic. We never did broach a topic that was too controversial. About the election, all they had to say was a quick sentence of 'well, most people think both sides are bad... It's a controversial topic because we're unfortunately so divided...' - just absolute platitude spoken very very seriously. We also talked about the concussion crisis in contact sport, and again, they were just like 'yeaahhh, seems inevitable really, not a lot you can do... anyway...' Never have I met people so un-opinionated. When the comedy acts came on, they had a wail of a time. One comedian was a stereotypically attractive woman, and as she came on stage, while everyone applauded her onto stage, these two 25 year olds were giggling like schoolboys, prodding each other, and shouting "lets fucking go!! Lets go bro!!!". At other points in the set one of them especially would give a 'lets gooooo' to a punchline. Very funny to watch. Americans are such a different breed. Still, they were just having a good time on holiday, and 2 of the sets were very gay and autistic, and they liked those too. And they bought me a couple of drinks as thanks for taking them. I would be lying if I said they weren't nice and friendly guys. I would place them as Democrats or perhaps libertarian. Anyway, what do you tend to do in scenarios where you know someone would find you a disgusting godless communist if they had any idea? What I did was just to be normal, and genial. But it is an odd position to be in. Can someone truly be considered 'nice' and 'pleasant' when they harbour staunch ideology that is inherently racist and so on? How do you reconcile that? Aren't like 90% of people like that (though some to more of an extent than others).
I mean - consider for a second that we currently have the most comprehensive martial arts practice in all of history, with the largest humans, best sports science, and all that. Any top UFC fighter from the past decade could probably beat the fuck out of anyone ever before the year 1980. Isn't that wild? Dudes who have (probably) watched Rick and Morty could beat the piss out of Alexander The Great or whoever the fuck. And it wouldn't even be close. Biting and eye gouging is banned of course, but even if it wasn't, Brock Lesnar isn't letting you even get close to that. I mean, speaking of Brock, even big pro wrestlers - medieval blokes would shit their pants on sight if they saw Scott Steiner going freakmode off the roids. Perc Angle. Big Show - like what - he's a literal giant. But what about Mark Zuckerberg? He's a big guy. He does his MMA. I think give him a month to train and send him back in time. Think I've got Havana syndrome. No but seriously - the state of the world right now - feels like every contradiction inherent to capitalism has erupted in the past few days. Climate. Imperialism. 'Democracy'. Media bullshit. Maybe my life's personal stress is compounding it at the moment too, but fuck me. I am so mad at the moment. I find myself typing like a milennial cringelord, my replies filled with 'fuck shit assfucker fucking come at me shitfucker' type posts. I find myself not bothered to put effort into responses when a rage filled uppunctuated mess feels so right. I often tell people not the mald. It's easy to get stirred up about online crap. I recognised this habit, this feeling of enjoying being mad, but in an unproductive way, and I stopped doing it. I never do it with singular issues anymore. I don't get into internet debates. I let it ride. But these last few days? Its making me insane. It's one thing to recognise it going down. It's another thing for society to make me feel like IM the one that's overreacting. And to think, I voted for Kier fucking Starmer. And next election, I'll be forced to do the same so that Tories don't get in. And I know, electoralism is a sham, but I don't think people comprehend just how bad Tories have been for Britain in the last 20 years. Especially for my sector. I do find Labour - even Starmer's Labour - a lot better in quite a few ways. But on key issues? I fucking hate them. I hate them with all my bile. Maybe I need to just move to Corbyn's borough so I can make sure he stomps some ghoul again. Anyway. I'm fine. But as I sit here anticipating the new wave of absolute garbage propaganda I'm going to be fed over the coming weeks, a vignette from a Chinese movie called A Touch Of Sin comes to mind, based on real events. Dahai's corrupt boss screws him.  Over and over. [SPOILERS] So he shoots him.  He also shoots some guy who is abusing a horse. And some other relatively innocent bystanders. Anyway. I don't mean this as a call to adventurism. I would never kill my local politician or anything, not only because my life so far means I would find it very difficult to take another human life, but also because it is totally counter productive. But as a concept? As a piece of art on screen? The ultimate expression of a 'dog-eat-dog' world turned towards those who like it that way, is certainly satisfying to watch. As are many tales of vigilante justice. Anyway, here's another still:  I think the stills could be great emotes if it wasn't so on the nose to interpret uncharitably. Undoubtedly goes hard.

A little while ago I got banned from Reddit because of some VERY mild Israel criticism. Truly, I am in awe that I got a sitewide ban for telling people not to conflate anti Zionism with anti semitism. Every new account I make gets nuked in a matter of hours. Anyway. My mother is totally mental. She threatens suicide a lot. Attempts it even. But I often doubt what's really happening. My sister cut her off over it. So last night she says she's really doing it, and she's going to put the gas on in her campervan (shes on holiday in France) and take some sleeping pills and that'll be her life over. She said the dogs will die too. She knows I care for them deeply, and has tried to leverage similar things before. But I figure they've had an excellent and long life each, and carbon monoxide/propane is a pretty good way to go. Sad, of course, but I am so detached at this point that I just have to accept it for what it is. Anyway, this morning, to no surprise at all, she wakes up alive. As always. And she says the dogs are ill. One woke up but didn't move, the other wouldn't come round til she bathed him in some water. So she says she had to go to the vet. She tells me they gave the dogs an IV drip and some charcoal. Already suspecting bullshit, that caught my attention. Why would you give charcoal to a gas-poisoned dog? Charcoal is for ingested poisons, is it not? Gas poisoning is blood and oxygen related. Any vet worth their salt would not administer charcoal in that situation, right? Or am I wrong? So that's the crux of the question. I think she's lying. I mean, how hard is it to gas yourself in a campervan? She's 50 something and frail. And two little older shihtzus? They're gonna easily get gassed out. She never took those dogs to the vet because nothing ever happened. And would that cost 700 GBP (in euros)? That's what she's saying it cost. Anyway, save me your messages of condolence and such. I know it's a hard situation. Everyone always tells me so. I've come to terms with all that a long time ago. I just want the truth. If you don't know the answer, a post on r/veteranarians or whatever the vet sub is would be fantastic help. Many pleases. Many thanks.
