From the perspective of someone who sometimes has some cash to redistribute on here, I just want to provide some feedback on [the semi-recent rule changes](https://hexbear.net/post/2803644?scrollToComments=false) in this comm. I don't think all of them are working and I think this comm needs just a little bit more attention to rectify the situation! First, and I hope least controversial: the sidebar desperately needs to be updated to reflect the actual updated rules. Second, similarly uncontroversial, the rules should generally actually be enforced. Not enforcing them consistently is worse than not having them in some cases. This ties into several other issues. Third thing, clarity is needed on whether or not payment details are allowed in the form of not (immediately) personally identifiable usernames. The rule rn says PII/opsec leaks aren't allowed and that payment *links* aren't, but usernames seems more gray. I thought that usernames weren't allowed at all until I re-read the post, and judging by the variety of different approaches to providing payment details in recent posts, I'm not the only one unsure. Fourth thing, I think that strongly encouraging people to update their posts when they receive aid is a good thing for helping spread the community's limited aid resources around more where they are needed most. That's good guidance and I wish everyone did it! Fifth, **and to me personally, one of the most important**, I am less likely to send money, if I have to effectively dox myself to the poster to do it, and when I have to ask for payment details over DM, that's basically what I'm doing (its trivial to correspond who I am by timing and payment method, even if multiple people do send them money, doubly so over multiple different posts over time). It's one thing for them to know my name or my venmo or whatever, but when they can tie that name to a *specific* hexbear account I start to go from "keeping the risk in mind" to "I don't think that's a risk I'm willing to take". So while I can understand the urge to not have posters dox themselves, the reverse is also true. Sixth, as a result of having to DM for payment details (both because of the doxing risk and just the extra steps for both parties), mutual aid posters are currently incentivized to violate or skirt around grey areas of the rules if they want to get more aid. Combined with the lax enforcement/unclear rule, this creates a really sucky situation where people in need are punished monetarily for trying to follow the rules. Seventh, related to #2/maybe #1 and others, I am of the opinion the comm probably needs another mod or two, it's pretty active and can be a fraught topic when there are disputes, and currently there only seems to be one active mod? A further revision of the rules to explicitly allow non-doxxing payment methods to be published, followed by an update to the sidebar, would be greatly appreciated tbh. Or something like that. I appreciate all the work done to keep this site safe and functional and such, but these little issues have been nagging at the back of my mind for months now and needed to get out. Thoughts?

My mom tends to downplay her own needs and doesn't want to burden others by asking for help, but I just got a message from her that she's short on one of her bills and they're threatening to shut her service off if she doesn't pay in full by tomorrow morning. She was pretty upset about it so I couldn't get much info out of her, but apparently she thought she was caught up when she paid a couple weeks ago but she didn't realize she was still a month behind. I've talked with her about asking for help sooner, but her memory isn't what it used to be. I don't get paid until Friday, so any help is appreciated by both of us. A quick update to anyone concerned, I was able to get help from my aunt to pay my rent, so I'm still housed. I'm not sure how to make next month's, but I have some time. Currently, though, I have an appointment Monday to get my cast removed, xrays done again to make sure it's healing, and the cast replaced. My co-pay for this appointment is $50, which I do not have. I have power back, yes, but I still have an internet outage. For this reason, I have to use a mobile data connection for everything, and I cannot work as my job is a remote job that explicitly requires a stable internet connection. Due to how severely Milton hit and how much time it's made me miss work, I'm genuinely concerned about whether or not I'd be able to make rent again. This is anxiety that I absolutely don't need right now, especially since I was thinking that the job situation made me feel secure, but of course, despite this, I still have to be let down by a fucking hurricane. I can't just have a month where I can calmly go about doing wage labor to pay for things that are essential for me to live. Nope! Even some natural disaster has to get in the way of that. Overall, I gotta make $750 by the 1st, but *any* amount helps. I don't know how long I'll be without internet, but that is how long I'll be without the ability to work. I'm highly distressed because of how much work time I have missed, and the fact that I'm struggling to have steady access to food has fucked me up bad. I had to toss everything from my fridge due to spoilage, and I'm feeling extremely pissed off at this moment. I had to endure this awful power outage for days, and the amount of rage, stress, and hopelessness I feel is not really able to be properly communicated. I’m homeless, in a part of AmeriKKKa where every winter is tolerable except for a week or two where it dips the closest I’ve ever experienced to 0°F. The last two years I’ve been able to ride it out in motel rooms paid for by friends but this year I don’t think I’ll be so lucky. As fall fades fast into winter I’m becoming straight up terrified. I want to do more than just survive this winter though. I’ve always dreamt of living out of a van, even before I was homeless. I almost accomplished that dream this summer but I fucked up. I think I’ve learned my lesson and I feel like I deserve a second chance. Not only would a van give me a place to stay *kind of* indoors-ish this winter, it will give me something I’ve never had before: my own private space. Being car homeless is generally better than being tent-and-sleeping-bag homeless; I’ll have a better shot at blending in, and I’ll have more mobility, a place to stash my things, etc. I’m going to try my best not to dip into this fund for food or day to day sundries. But it’s hard when like, only one person sends me $20, or something. And I’m going to keep boosting this fundraising effort—something multiple people have recommended to me. We're going down the DIY route, so it'll be much cheaper, but I'm trying to get as many girls their sublingual drops and t-blockers as possible. My mom has been severely disabled for honestly more of my life than she's been healthy at this point. It goes back to 2005. She's 61 right now, her brain is kinda addled from oxygen depriv and a lot of medical events, so idk what her finances look like but I can guess she needs more help than she's let on. Her phones are off, her gas is off, and a bundle of other shit is cutting off. I didn't know this till yesterday. she's in the hospital (which is fairly normal tbh). Her fixed income runs at a loss just paying bills and eating as little as possible, and her family are kind of worthless maga shitheads who think this is all somehow her fault. My dad's a deadbeat and they're divorced anyway, she's single, however support amounts to what him, my sister, and myself can divert to her, which is well short of what she needs, especially since right now i'm *also* dependent on outside help to be solvent. I'm going down to texas to probably say my goodbyes to my grandfather, who is dying rapidly. My family is mostly dirt poor, and organizing my airfare has drained the people who can actually help her. However, I kind of need her in the loop because her place is 1/2 of my shelter down there for this stay. I can work around no gas for cooking, but I can't really do much with her if i can't communicate with her. She can restore her phone service for $280. I have no idea about gas, but she asked for $500 total yesterday, which just isn't fucking possible for me. Neither number is something I can really deliver, but I figured i'd try here. With that phone off, she can't even really get the help she needs. She has one dirt poor ride or die neighbor friend, and i believe she'll do what she can, but there's really no support network here if she's fully cut off from me and my sister. She relies on us to get her any extra support, be that with talking to family or negotiating rides and help from friends, it's all kinda on us, and we do it from hundreds, and thousands, of miles away so we are super limited. Starting to think i need to set my shit aside and go back in the closet to live with and help her, but I can't do that just yet. I'm just trying to make sure i'm in communication for the month i'll be in the area if at all possible, but I can't make that happen without external help. I've spoken about my financial problems on here before. Basically I'm going through a disability benefit appeal and have no money. The food bank is difficult to access regularly and it takes a long time to get an appointment. A couple of people on here have helped me out before with food, toilet paper and some toiletries for which I am so grateful. But I'm out of food now and have no means of accessing more. I would prefer not to accept money as the DWP (the nazis who run the UK benefit system) are checking people's bank and paypal accounts and how will I explain money going in. So I would be extremely grateful if anyone could give me any type of food vouchers that can be used in the UK. Like a supermarket voucher for Sainsburys/Asda/M&S or Tesco. Or a justeat voucher. Anything I can spend on food.

Hello again everyone, hate having to make these posts and I really wish there was something else i could do :( For a quick recap ~ my wife and I are homeless and disabled, and lost pretty much all of our family over the past year and have no friends around so zero support system. We currently have been able to manage staying in a sleezy motel, and thanks to you guys have been able to stay off the streets thus far. I was advised that I should perhaps start fundraising for next months rent a bit earlier so it isn’t a last minute desperate nail biting affair as to whether we’ll be on the street or not - for reference, again, it costs $55/day, $250/week, or $650/month if paid in advance. Any help is greatly appreciated and I can’t say enough how much it means to us. We’re in a really hard spot just in general as we lost half our food stamps and due to the stoppage of the Affordable Connectivity Program we’ve had to start paying for phone service as well which is extremely vital, and we do not have a vehicle and stay in an area lacking good public transport so we have to basically rideshare to anywhere we’ve got to go unless it is extremely close as I’m completely unable to walk most days and only can manage a short distance when I can due to an injury. This is just to say again, absolutely anything is greatly appreciated. Have more or less given up on the laptop battery for now, however still need to turn on my wife’s phone which is about ~$46! For the bajillionth time because I can’t express this enough, thank you so much everyone. We should hopefully be out of this situation come November sometime.
