i grew up in a conservative state (Oklahoma) and in the church, so i was told being gay was one of the worst sins. i also never got the talk. i ended up learning what sex was from one of my friends when i was 12. it hurts a lot being in a state where a ton of people are against you and some hate you so much that they are willing to kill you

my mom found out i was gay a couple months after that sleepover. she put me on conversion therapy. i only went for 1 day though because i lied and told her i liked girls “again”. for that day tho, it just boiled down to my therapist saying “like girls again or you’ll burn in hell”. i’ve never liked girls in the first place so no thanks

this is exactly what some of my friends think. they think i’m trying to be different for the sake of being different and not because i enjoy privacy
mine was when i was 13. i always thought one of my friends in middle school was good looking…too good looking. a month later we had a sleepover and he took his shirt and shorts off to change… and that confirmed it. side note, did anyone else find the guys on underwear really hot? when i get new underwear, i kinda can’t help but stare at it for a bit until i remember that i’m in public and people could notice that i’m staring. also, i’ve recently fully accepted myself as gay and that’s really helped me mentally. for a few years i would beat myself up about it out of shame. anyways, i was just curious about when and how you found out you were gay?

pretty much every app will start to use iOS 16 as the minimum OS capable of running it. it’s best if you upgrade now so you can run all of your apps and so you have more security

you could also try this for iPhone: https://github.com/arichornloverALT/uYouEnhanced it has sponsorblock included too

i’m not sure. most people at my school use a laptop at their main computer, so they couldn’t use an ubuntu DVD anyways. i personally prefer dual boot over single boot

linux can be used through mostly GUI now so i partly agree with you, but installing linux can be quite a hard task for those who aren’t tech savvy. i’m pretty sure being able to do the following can be considered tech savvy:
- change boot settings
- flash an ISO to a USB drive
- shrink windows partition into a new one for linux
- boot from USB
- actually install linux
- get used to linux
Edit: the thing is… everyone is so used to things being pre-installed (ie windows/macOS/iOS), being able to download apps easily from the apple App Store. anything even slightly more complicated than that is too hard for them. i’ve had a graphic design class with some people a few years ago and some of them had to ask me for help for how to open a file, save, and export. if something isn’t completely, 100% automated for them, they can’t do it.

I’m part of Gen Z, and no, we as a generation AREN’T tech savvy. just because we grew up with smart phones does not make us tech savvy. in fact, i actually think it made us dumber with tech. i’m the only one in my school who knows how to use a command line and code (i also use linux as my daily driver). meanwhile everyone else doesn’t even know what a freaking file manager is

it’s a very good tipping point dude. settings is so complicated to navigate and is very slow. not to mention control panel still has more features than settings

of course! i recommend downloading an older version of youtube by at least 2 builds (if the newest is 19.30, go for 19.28). i also recommend taking a while to go through all the settings. there are a ton of things you can tinker with to make youtube better

use uYouEnhanced (it’s iOS only and on github). gotta build it yourself with your own decrypted youtube IPA. haven’t seen an ad in years because of it. it also includes sponsorblock and free downloads
due to apple’s stupid side loading policies, you gotta sideload this through a service like AltStore or Sideloadly so you can actually launch the app. i personally recommend sideloadly because they allow 1 more app to be signed than altstore, and they let you enable file permissions for apps you download

oh my god. who’d wanna sign up for a service run by that dumbass lol
followup to an old post of mine: https://lemm.ee/post/26206497 even though we both graduated, turns out i will be seeing him pretty often again. he’s going to the same church as i do (if i could, i wouldn’t go to church but idk how my parents would react to me telling them im not christian anymore, so i’ll just wait till i move out). so i’ll be seeing him every sunday and wednesday. he’s homophobic so i know i have no chance with him. i want to get over him but this will make it much harder. not to mention that i can definitely tell he’s been working out more and he’s got a really nice tan now… what can i do?
my family is moving into a much bigger house than we used to have. we use amazon echos as an intercom system through the announcement feature. because our house is bigger, i’m being forced to get one myself for my room. i haven’t needed one for years because i use their app on my phone and i can see their announcements as a notification and i can also kill off most of its tracking by DNS. unfortunately my parents don’t understand this and are forcing me to get one. what can i do to limit its tracking?
hey bros, i’ve been a lurker on lemmy ever since the silly reddit API thing happened, and i think this is my first post?? anyway, there’s this guy on my high school’s robotics team that i really like. i should mention that this is a private christian school in oklahoma which is why i’m making this post in the first place. im unsure if this guy is really straight though. you see, he goes out of his way to see only me. maybe he’s just a really great friend who wants to see me, maybe not. but also the night before our state competition, he uh, let me sit on his lap and later on he uh…spooned me for a solid 2 minutes after the other guy in our airbnb we were staying at for the night fell asleep. he kinda played it off at the end like he was messing with me and maybe he was but i’m not sure. there’s some other stuff too like the way he talks to me. he doesn’t talk the same way to anyone else. i really want to ask him out but im just really worried how he’ll take it. pretty much all the guys at my school except a handful of them are homophobic… oh yeah in case any of you are curious, im the programmer for the team and he’s one of the builders
