From a memoir by one of Marx’s friends
“The greatest treat was a general donkey riding. That was a mad laughing and whooping! And those ludicrous scenes! And how Marx amused himself and us. Us he amused twofold: by his more than primitive art of riding and by the fanatic zeal with which he affirmed his skill in this art. The skill consisted in having once taken riding lessons while a student. Engels contended that he had not gotten beyond the third lesson, and in taking a ride once in a score of years during his visits to Manchester in company with Engels on the back of a demure Rosinante, probably the great-grandcolt of the lamblike mare that the ‘old Fritz’ had once upon a time given to the good Gellert.”
Maya Angelou also puts it well when asked what should be remembered about Malcolm X: “he had an incredible sense of humor.”
Great people are often remembered as very serious, and a piece of their humanity is lost
It’s like how

“The.” Oh you don’t know which war was “the”? Shame. Sounds like someone hasn’t been keeping up with their news.
Obviously, “the” war is the one most prominently covered by US media. The other ones are only sparkling wars.

AFAIK asbestos is not a problem at all until and unless you tear it apart. In that case it will be expensive to do it safely. But not a problem to use while the asbestos is encapsulated in the building materials.

The best I could find with some research was the Dvorak Technique used to measure cyclone intensity from visible and infrared images.
Also from Wikipedia:
While typical mature storms have eyes that are a few dozen miles across, rapidly intensifyingstorms can develop an extremely small, clear, and circular eye, sometimes referred to as a pinhole eye. Storms with pinhole eyes are prone to large fluctuations in intensity, and provide difficulties and frustrations for forecasters.[7]
Lastly I would guess it has to do with plain angular momentum. A cyclone that contracts will spin faster, if angular momentum is constant, in the same way that a figure skater speeds up when they tuck in their arms.

If you have insurance in the US, look into Active and Fit Direct.
It lets you into a network of local gyms on a subscription model with a flat rate. It’s billed by your insurance, so when you want to cancel, you just ask your insurance. You never have to interface with the gym at all for billing matters.
I never personally used it since I moved away, but did look into it and heard good things.

Job-hunting depression is complemented by the false ego boosting that occurs while you’re employed or studying.
When you’re “in”, you are encouraged to overestimate your own contribution to the economy/world. No one keeps each other in check. Then when you’re unemployed, you are forced to confront the reality of your position as a replaceable laborer. Mere personnel. It’s like this at every level, people lying to themselves and each other about their importance, and denigrating the unemployed in order to solidify their own tenuous position.

What sort of life are you looking for? Do you want a relatively familiar lifestyle (ie western), English speaking, similar material wealth? Or would you be fine completely changing everything, speaking Spanish or Arabic or Chinese, owning next to nothing, and maybe losing life options but otherwise not being forced into a 9-5 slog.
Europe has a lot of problems, and your experience will vary a lot depending on the country. But it will be an easier transition for an American compared with idk, Honduras or China. And although Europe sucks in a lot of ways, it is better in certain key areas. More walkable cities, little to no second amendment gun nuts, more consumer protections, more vacation, etc. Of course as a tankie I understand the political and economic limitations of Europe, but practically speaking it is not a bad option for an American.

I love a good bass line, so I’m lookin forward to seeing some suggestions here
Most of the discography by Men I Trust has a dynamic bass line. For example, Lauren
Most songs by the The Smiths; for example, This Night Has Opened My Eyes
Parquet Courts - Before the Water Gets Too High
Tame Impala - The Less I Know the Better
Thee Sacred Souls - Will I See You Again?

Microsoft is also pursuing power from nuclear fusion, a potentially abundant, cheap and clean form of electricity that scientists have been trying to develop for decades — and most say is still a decade or more away from generating electricity. Microsoft has signed a contract to purchase fusion energy from a start-up that claims it can deliver it by 2028.
Lmao what a way to close out the article
I mean, if the AI arms race gets us over the hurdle for cheap fusion energy in the next three years, then I will consider AI to be a net positive for humanity. But I’m not holding my breath.

Not exactly an obscure song, but even 20 years later this song + anime music video still slap.
Pro tip: don’t not be a white man if you try this
This man is just fascinating to watch When I first tuned in, he was ranting about neocons and their adventurism, and I was a bit surprised since I agree with that Then he said Germany should stop supporting the war in Ukraine, and it doesn’t help Germany to just be a US base. Agree … because “a strong Germany is the best defense against Russia” 🤨 Something something, Kamala is going to let BRICS happen and that’s bad Just all over the place lol
tl;dw he had a “flat affect” after his daughter died because he was autistic, not because he was a murderer
this is going to be extremely vague. I just have this melody stuck in my head and I can't figure out what it is from. These four notes are the primary motif for the rest of the song if I remember right. I think these notes are approximately right, going by this virtual keyboard: https://www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano C2 (half note) E5 (half note) G4 (half note) F4 (whole note) repeat. Or on the virtual keyboard, with "max keys" turned on, it's the keys 1-f-o-i Anyone know what this song is?

Not to humblebrag but I’m not online enough to know the details of the likely struggle sessions that have already occurred relating to this (Hexbear or elsewhere) I’m reading _Racial Formation in the United States_, and it makes frequent use of latin@. But to me it just seems really awkward/forced. Just use latine? Or, if one insists on using a combo letter, maybe at least something like the Swedish å? Or instead of trying to change the language, just divorce any correlation between human gender and word gender by selecting either latino or latina to refer to all people. I only have a basic American level ability to speak Spanish so if there are Spanish speakers here with better insight, lemme hear the roasts
Race as such, as a category. Been pondering about whether it is something to be abolished in the same sense as one might speak of gender abolition or class abolition. Looking for refinement on this thought if possible. Thanks!
