Yeah, I got the reference. I just think it would be funny if one of the characters with a lisp would be the one to say "precious".

There are definitely different prices when I'm logged in vs when I'm not. My wife sends me a links to products, and I usually open any link in incognito windows. Several times I was not seeing the same price as her. Opening the same link on my account would show the same price.

Well, I haven't played these types of games when I was young. But I have no intention of spending money on microtransactions and the games I've chosen have been fun as a f2p player, so they work for me.

As for my kids, they're still in elementary school and they've been raised mostly screen-free, so it's not something I need to worry about just yet.

I play these games in bursts. Play until exhausting the actual content, then stop when it turns into a grind-fest. Come back a year or two later when there's enough new content to make it fun again. Usually also with a whole bunch of returning player rewards. Repeat.

A I never ever spend a single cent in these games.

I thought AI was great at picking up context?

I don't know why you thought that. LLMs split your question into separate words and assigns scores to those words, then looks up answers relevant to those words. It has no idea of how those words are relevant to each other. That's why LLMs couldn't answer how many "r"s are in "strawberry". They assigned the word "strawberry" a lower relevancy score in that question. The word "rescue" is probably treated the same way here.

Games that I play include Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, both of which I just checked and don't work on Linux due to anticheat protection. I see there are some alternative open-source launchers that would get them working on Linux and Mac, but I wouldn't risk my account using those.

Years ago I switched to Linux on my PC and everything was fine. But there was a game I wanted to play that didn't work on Linux, so I created a small Windows partition to dual boot. Later, that game became two, then three, and so on. I had to reformat some partitions to ntfs (iirc I was using reiserfs) to expand available storage for Windows to add more games. Then at one point I realized it's been a while since I've booted into Linux and I don't even know if it still works.

So yeah, use whatever fits your needs. I'll always pick Linux PC or Mac for work, but I'll stick with Windows for gaming.

For context, I've been on computers since the 8bit era and I've been programming for just as long. I prefer the power of a terminal over GUIs, my "IDE" of choice is vim. I use Git Bash in Windows for access to Linux-style commands. So yeah, I am technical and I prefer Linux for practical reasons. But when I want to play a game I want to just start it and play it, not work for days to maaaybe get it to mostly run fine except for some features.

Edit: one of the games I had to use Windows for was League. A competitive online game with anti-cheat features.

Edit2: note that this was many years ago and some other games I needed Windows for will now probably work on Linux effortlessly. At least one has native support for Linux now.

I recall dreams the same way as I recall real events. There are no actual images or sounds that I can "see" or "hear" in my mind as I think back on the events, but I know I've seen and heard those things. So it's difficult to answer the question. Did I "see" things in my sleep, but remember them only as ideas, or were they just ideas in the dream too? I tend to think it was the former.

You imagined a lot more details than I did. For me it was just the concept of a ball. And then the idea of it moving. The person and the table were left our as irrelevant.

The thought experiment I use when explaining to people about aphantasia is a much simplified version of yours: "imagine a circle", "ok", "what color is it?"

That's it. People give an answer, sometimes including more details, like texture. Then I tell them that for me the question doesn't make sense, I just imagined the idea of a circle and didn't actually "see" anything, so there's no additional detail to it.

Perhaps the AI bros “think” by guessing the next word and hoping it’s convincing

Perhaps? Isn't that the definition of LLMs?

Edit: oh, i just realized it's not talking about the LLMs, but about their apologists

My best guess is it generates several possible replies and then does some sort of token match to determine which one may potentially be the most accurate.

Didn't the previous models already do this?

I use multilingual keyboard layouts, so I know that at least on Windows the selected layout is specific to each window. If I chat with someone in one language, then switch to my IDE, it will not keep the layout I used in the chat window.

But I also have accidently hit the combination to change layouts while doing something, so it can happen. I'm just surprised that Cyrillic с is on the same key as C, instead of S.

How would I go about removing this sink and vanity?

How are these usually attached to the wall? Can I just pry them off or would that damage the drywall? And follow up questions: how can I reproduce that texture when painting the newly exposed areas of the wall?

I don't know much about Pokémon cards, but I know this is a rare holo. Is it worth much? Backstory: my son (6yo) kept talking lately about a Mewtwo he got at a birthday party and how he's going to trade it with his classmate for a Darkrai, but he lost his Mewtwo somewhere in the car. So yesterday I finally get around to searching below the car seat to find this. A holo Mewtwo Vstar, in a protective sleeve too. I asked him repeatedly if it was really in the goodie bag (making sure the b-day kid didn't just give it away on their own without parents knowing), but yeah, everyone got cards in their bags (but doesn't sound like anyone got something like this one). For now I told him to just keep it safe and not use it to play with and definitely don't trade it away.
