I agree I close them if I see that, but just so you know a combo of bypass paywalls clean, and ublock origin (go into settings and enable all cookie notices, social widgets, and annoyances) will bypass 95% of those without you even knowing

If that fails go to web.archive.org and paste the URL, that works most of the time. There's a web extension called "web archives" that makes this easy if you're ok with other extensions

I've been on debian stable for quite a while, it hasn't been an issue yet.

If it's something that needs to stay updated I use flatpaks which are usually available nowadays.

Yeah my steam input configs are crazy

I have a whole system for desktop navigation which I've grown to really like

I've recently taken to using touchpad touch as a button chord modifier and it is soo nice.

Yeah, that's really the most straightforward solution unfortunately.

In case you're not already familiar look into sunshine/moonlight for quick access to the windows machine

If you need to use abusive windows software while retaining some privacy you really have 2 options:

    1. Have a separate PC with windows and your games installed. Isolate your activities so all your normal work and personal stuff is on linux, and then you switch input on your display, or use sunshine/moonlight to access windows when you want to.

    2. Use linux and do all your gaming etc. in a windows VM. This is what I do but it is not easy to set up, if you're interested in this idea keep it in mind and come back to it later.

If you're using VM hostile software though which it sounds like you are, #2 becomes even more complicated so I say bite the bullet and do #1.

Dualboot is pretty ass and breaks all the time. I strongly suspect that was part of your issue

I am baffled to read you had to troubleshoot your linux installation every day, what kind of distro were you using?

Sorry you didn't have a good time.

If you know what you're doing yes (not guaranteed to work in all games), but you're always at constant threat of being potentially banned.

The info is hard to find but I assure you tons of people play anticheat games in VMs all the time. I personally avoid those games so I don't know the specifics of all the tricks they do to hide the VM.

Being it's a VM I could see some people just restoring from a template if they get banned and not really caring. No way to be hardware banned afaik.

This VM detection and VM anti detection is a reguarly evolving arms race, and some games invest a LOT more effort into staying on top of it than others.

There is no evidence. safety is about staying multiple steps ahead and risk mitigation when possible.

Centralized servers are a single point of failure that could be compromised in the future.

My contact's devices they use signal on are insecure and could be easily compromised in the future.

SMS/Cell network in general are insecure as hell and I avoid it as much as possible.

Why would I expose all that sensitive data when there's literally no need to? Simplex works great for me.

Yeah, for me personally I'm sticking to simplex. I can get an anonymous sim card, but none of the people I'd be talking to would do that. I don't want this relationship/network map out there at all if I can avoid it.

LocalSend can also send installed .apks if you're on android.

Localsend is just awesome in general, use it if you need to send files wirelessly over lan

  • Hi all, What do you use to wirelessly project your screen? I have sunshine / moonlight set up and that works alright but I'm told there are simpler ways and I'm behind the times :p Is this a thing in FOSS / Linux land? All suggestions welcome and appreciated. EDIT: I use Graphene on a Pixel 8A

Hi all, hope you're doing well, I do a lot of work in various VMs and pass through USB devices to move data around I would like to be able to instead use localsend and other LAN stuff like SMB/moonlight What is the best way for me to do this? I thought about doing a wireguard tunnel to the host but figured I'd ask in case there's a better way Thanks in advance

Hi all, I'm having a bad day and did something colossally stupid, deleting everything from /boot/. The system is still running. What do you think my best course of action is? My current idea is to create a timeshift backup, reinstall debian from USB, then restore from backup in timeshift If this won't work or you have a better idea I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance

Hi all, I’ve recently moved to pixel/graphene and I’m looking for a more open replacement for spotify. I installed a bunch from F-droid to test (newpipe, pipepipe, libretube, RiMusic, SpMp, SimpmMusic, InnertTune, ViMusic, etc) I'm testing them all but I'm a bit overwhelmed with choice. I've heard of 'cracked spotify' apks but not sure what the deal is with those or how trusted they are I’d like to find something that lets me control the music from my desktop, either through KDE connect or a standalone app. FOSS / F-droid preferred. I plan to start maintaining my library locally but I still need some kind of streaming solution. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Hello all, I have recently moved to pixel/graphene, and am looking to dump spotify. On desktop I use Freetube and Nuclear which I really like, but I haven't found a good way to sync with mobile. On the android side I have newpipe, pipepipe, libretube, RiMusic, SpMp, SimpmMusic, InnertTune, ViMusic..... I'm a bit overwhelmed with options. I've heard of cracked spotify apks but I'm not sure what the deal is with those With that in mind please give recommendations or explain your solution. KDE connect integration is a nice plus some of these apps have but I'd be ok with using a standalone application as long as I can somehow control the music on either device. I plan to start maintaining my library locally but I still need some kind of streaming solution. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Hi all, Sorry for the foolish question but I have to make a quick decision here and trust you to point me in the right direction. I am about to buy a google pixel phone second hand with cash. (for graphene, not gonna use a sim) 1: What things do I need to be on the lookout for? How can I quickly verify it is unlocked/rootable? 2: Any recommendations on where to buy? I've never used stuff like FB market, craigslist, etc. but I think those places would be my best bet. Please tell me if you have a better idea. Thanks in advance and hope you have a good rest of your day EDIT: Graphene in hand! Good to be back on custom roms, rocked cyanogenmod for a long time Thanks guys

cross-posted from: https://links.hackliberty.org/post/2005038 I know this is an outrageously bad idea, I don't need convincing. I am just looking for some more information and discussion on what exactly the exposure and surveillance risk is. I'm asking both for my own education (I am still very green to networking), and to better explain to people in my life if and why they should care. 1. Is it true that traffic can be tracked and logged by ISP through DNS lookups, as these routers are preconfigured to use their internal dns service? 2. If this is changed (like base.dns.mullvad.net), how much does this actually mitigate the risk here? 3. What about when a VPN (mullvad) is also being used at all times? Would it then be "overly paranoid" to fear this untrusted box all the traffic goes through? I personally take a conservative approach to things like this and assume it's an unacceptable risk, but I don't really understand what the truth is. Thank you in advance for your time and thoughts. EDIT: I'm asking about US and US adjacent areas

Hello all, Just wondering if there are any projects involving lemmy and .onion I searched and didn’t see anything but I figured I’d ask If not is there a reason this isn’t possible? Or has nobody cared to do it yet? When I have to visit r****t I use a libreddit hidden service, and there are quite a few to choose from. Am I correct to think a similar mirror should be about as easy to implement for Lemmy? an onion only instance where it never touches the clearnet would be really cool too but it would probably be a ghost town (sadly). Love to hear your thoughts Thanks

Hello, I'm trying to send something to my gf's friend (~50gb) I tried creating my own torrent and was able to dl it on another device, but on her machine it stayed at 0% and wouldn't let me connect to seed Is FTP a good option? I set up a proxmox server last night but I don't really know what I'm doing yet Any guidance greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello, I set up Stremio + Real Debrid for my girlfriend and we have been really enjoying it. Since we use different VPNs at the moment, I had the idea to create a VM with stremio and a connection to the same server she's connected to. The idea being we could use the debrid account simultaneously and have the same IP. I quickly realized that the last digit of our client IPs were 0-3 digits off from each other, IE: 185.243.218.89 vs 185.243.218.90 Upon seeing this I stopped and checked the debrid account/email to check for a warning and saw nothing. **Question 1: Is this safe/acceptable, or is this considered breach of debrid TOS?** **Question 2: Would configuring a VPN on our router solve this issue? Or would it be the same situation?** I'm a bit of a networking idiot as you can see but I'm on a journey to learn. Thanks in advance
