  • Hello, I'm requesting to be made mod of !Kitchenconfidential. It is the name used for the subreddit for professional cooks/chefs. Eventhough I don't like to copy reddit where possible, the name has recognision and will be what people search for. It's currently dead with the current mod's last activity being 4 months ago. Thank you

VOTE: Potential "merger" of Lemmy World culinary communities.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/7439005 > Hello again, > > After getting some feedback on what we should do to help our culinary communities growth in the form of a potential "merger", we have some options and would like each community to vote on the next step. This ballot will be posted and pinned on [!recipes](https://lemmy.world/c/recipes), [!food](https://lemmy.world/c/food), [!cooking](https://lemmy.world/c/cooking), and [!askculinary](https://lemmy.world/c/askculinary), as those are the communities we're looking to combine. Below are comments corresponding to each vote decision. > > **Please vote by upvoting one of the comments below.** Downvotes will be ignored. This post will be left up for a week or until consensus is decided. > > --- > > Additional info: > > If option 1 or 2 get picked, !cooking@lemmy.world will be a catch-all so to help organize, we will be implementing tagging posts. Since Lemmy does not have built in tagging yet, we will be requiring posts to be tagged in the title. For example a post title could be: > > [RECIPE] Beef Stroganoff > > or > > [QUESTION] If you had to eat only one culture's cuisine for the rest of your life, what would you choose? > > The community sidebar will have a list of all approved tags and we will be tweaking this as we go along. Tagging may be implemented on some communities regardless of merging or not. > > > No matter which direction we go, the other more niche communities such as [!bbq](https://lemmy.world/c/bbq), [!sousvide](https://lemmy.world/c/sousvide), and [!koreanfood](https://lemmy.world/c/koreanfood) will be left as they are, though we encourage users to post in both !cooking as well as the more niche communities. (We are looking into possible automating this, but there are some obstacles to think about. If this becomes a possibility, we will pin a post to discuss this further) This should limit the amount of duplicate posts and if users still feel there are too many duplicates in their feeds, they can unsub from the niche community and still see the same content, that is if everyone takes part in posting to all relevant communities. > > [!FoodPorn](https://lemmy.world/c/foodporn) will remain it's own thing as a showcase of food photos. The mods of that community will have final say on what gets posted there. Food photos are still encouraged in all other communities, but additional information may be needed depending on what community it is. See sidebars of each for content rules.

I'm looking to get a new keyboard, something that's the way I'd like it to be, but I feel what I want is rather specific and I've found it hard to find something that fits what I want. With that being: 1. I want a numpad on the left side. This could also be a small macro keyboard attached to it, but that probably even more difficult. Still, this is the one thing the board must have. 2. Media controls somewhere. 3. No fancy lighting or rgb as I'm probably one of the few people who can't stand looking at that stuff. Plain white back lighting would be ideal. 4. If possible, I would like it to be possible to use it wireless. I've searched online, but finding boards that just have a numpad on the left side is hard to find, especially if you've got no real knowledge of what's good. I'm looking to spend 200-250 at the most and as the title says, I'm not opposed to building my own if that's what needed. Hope you guys can point me in the right direction at least.

We're thinking about merging some of the cooking/food communities, want to get your input

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/7274306 > cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/7214793 > > > Hello again! > > > > So we, the food and cooking community mods, have been discussing merging a few of the communities together. We're pretty fractured at the moment and we don't really have the userbase to support so many niche communities so we're looking at merging some. We previously pinned a post asking users to cross-post to relevant communities and some of the feedback we received is some don't like this as it can clutter their feeds. Also there were many suggestions of merging until we get more growth and can support more nice communities. > > > > So the plan would be to merge [!askculinary](!askculinary@lemmy.world), [!bbq](!bbq@lemmy.world), [!cooking](!cooking@lemmy.world), [!food](!food@lemmy.world), and [!recipes](!recipes@lemmy.world). This would combine a lot of the more general food communities into one and hopefully we reduce cross posting as well as grow users and content. Later, if we have a larger userbase that can support more niche communities, we can spin them off again. So, before moving forward with the merge, we wanted to make sure you all are aware of the plans as well as get some feedback on this decision. So please let us know what you think. We look forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks! > > > > EDIT: To explain how this would work, we have a couple options: > > > > 1) Lock all the niche communities and leave a pinned post pointing to the main Food community. Later we may reopen them once the userbase grows to support them. > > > > 2) Leave all communities open and cross post from the niche communities to the main one. So when you post a recipe to !recpies@lemmy.world, it would get crossposted to !food@lemmy.world. !food@emmy.world would be a catch all if you wanted the "fire hose" approach. Or you can sub to the niche communities you want. > >

Nothing too interesting really. That being said: DO YOU WANT A SNEAK PEAK INTO THE LIFE OF MY CAT? Well, here is your chance! I've created [!jackythecat@lemmy.world](https://lemmy.world/c/jackythecat) ( or [!jackyTheCat](/c/jackythecat@lemmy.world) if that doesnt work) exclusively to share pictures of my silly and usually grumpy cat Jacky. Join me and share my suffering in being the owner of this cute fuzzball

Why do you find enjoyment in cooking?

Just tuna, tomato and spring onion on a sea salt Ciabatta, topped with a sweet balsamic glaze.

I'm extremely European so don't have any prior experience making kimchi, but I feel a lot of recipes I find online are rather westernised. Kinda looking for someone their grandma's kimchi recipe.

Me and the mods of some other cooking related communities have been actively trying to connect them all and slowly grow them. !cooking@lemmy.world is the only one we haven't been able to reach. The last activity on the mods account has been over 2 months ago. Requesting to be made mod of that community to turn in into a more active one. Thank you very much.

Had a few oppertunities to work with one at work, since my parents want to through a huge bbq for Christmas (don't ask me why either) and I'll inevitably end up doing most of the prep and working the grill, I thought I'd make it somewhat easier of myself and get a sous vide. I'm willing to spend somewhere in the $100-150 range. There are just so many options out there that all seem to do the exact same thing. Thought I'd ask you guys as to what you are using. So, what are you guys using and why?

I recently started !AskCulinary because someone requested it. I also said I'd be answering all questions there for the foreseeable future. I'm able to check on my pc once or twice a day, but would prefer to be able to answer questions a bit quicker than that. To make this easier for myself I was wondering if there's a way to receive a notification every time a new post is created there. I'm using Sync on my phone at the moment, but I can switch if say maybe Boost has the option. Thanks
