I always thought Pokemon regions being inspired by real-world regions/countries was one of its neater aspects.
For those who don't know:
- Kanto: Kanto region, Japan (Tokyo and surrounding area)
- Johto: Kansai region, Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, etc)
- Hoenn: Kyushu island and Okinawa, Japan
- Sinnoh: Hokkaido island, Japan
- Unova: New York City metro area, USA
- Kalos: France
- Alola: Hawaii, USA
- Galar: the UK
- Paldea: the Iberian peninsula (Spain, Portugal)

I didn't really get that sense. They're disappointed it didn't do well, but not necessarily for the games own sake, more for what it's failure means for AA games. They call out Namco Bandai for its decisions that led to the game's failure, such as general lack of quality, lack of advertising, and pricing a non-AAA game as high as $50.

Armarouge is the last non-legendary/paradox I need to finish the Paldea dex. Hopefully I can get a team around me that's actually strong enough to beat it in a raid one of these times.

Heck, any new Shinobi game would be cool, whether brand new or old one remastered. I don't really recall Sega doing much with Shinobi in 3D, and it's been a long time since the ones on the GameCube/PS2 generation came out (which are the last ones I can think of). Heck, the latest Ninja Gaiden was 10 years ago or more. Either of those franchises could really use another entry. Ninja Gaiden would also be another good ninja-based franchise for a movie.

Impressive. They actually managed to make a product that makes AAA Clock on the Switch eShop look like a good deal.
Seriously though, cut the price in half and I'd MAYBE consider this as something of a Nintendo related novelty/"luxury" if I had the cash to burn. You can't ever convince me (or most people) to pay $100 for a friggin' alarm clock though.

I'm sure we remember not too long ago when rather than go with what the sponsors, advertisers, etc wanted and rein that shit in, they loosened the rules and Twitch essentially became a straight up porn site for two days. And it was already bad before then. It's probably only the plausible deniability preventing them from going back to loosening the rules and raking in the camgirl money. Disappointing but absolutely not surprising that Twitch would probably make more money from that than from the ads, sponsorships and so on they get now.

I'd also put a lot of that on KOC not being able to properly adjust a game plan that likely relied heavily on Jones once he went down. I'd bet it left Darnold needing to improvise a lot with more pressure coming at him and more coverage on the receivers from the Jets knowing he was going to be passing more, leading to a lot of mistakes on forced passes to Jefferson.

IIRC Mozilla doubled down on their v2 support when Chrome announced the shift to v3. But then the Chrome monopoly judgment came down and with it a lot of speculation on Google dropping their funding of Mozilla, so maybe Mozilla could be changing its tune to either protect or find a replacement for that funding? Nothing of substance is happening yet, it's still all speculation, but I do hope nothing like that does happen.

A great privacy focused client for YouTube is FreeTube. Uses a native API or Invidious for playback, and you can download and share videos from it. Doesn't give any identifying info to Google/YouTube and I've never once dealt with an ad. For mobile, Grayjay and NewPipe are similar apps.

I've already played a fan translation of Investigations 2, but I'll probably pick it up when I buy Emio the Smiling Man, if only to play the actual official translation and see how it was intended by Capcom.

Seems to be another Baker Mayfield/Sam Darnold situation where he may not have been the real problem with his lack of success in Chicago, and/or just needed a different team structure or coaching situation to meet his real potential. QBs rarely really thrive in Chicago partly because the Bears are rarely built like a team focused on QBs in general. As long as I've watched them, the Bears' identity has been a strong defense and running the ball on offense, the passing game is an afterthought. Watching Caleb getting thrown out there in that environment is watching the Bears try to fit a square peg in a round hole, same as it was when they had Fields. They made at least something of an effort this time by also drafting his WR teammate, but that's not likely to be enough on its own for Caleb to shine there. He needs more help, and only time will tell if Chicago will provide it for him, but it will likely mean an entire change in team philosophy to do so.

That said, they're not likely to license an already made AI for their projects either, which is also nice.

Falkon is better for privacy than stock Chrome or Firefox, but I still find Brave or LibreWolf better than that.

Now that I'm getting into retro gaming as an actual hobby I want to try the originals if I can, but these will still probably be quite good.

That said, they still mess with the versions of sites I get. If I choose a US server, I want to know I'm going to get the US version of a site.
When I connected to the "fastest server" this morning, it appeared at first to connect me to a US server in Chicago. Then I visited a sports site and got the European version. Odd. So I went to check browserleaks, and lo and behold, for some reason or another I was in Czechia (is it still called the Czech Republic?). Anyway, I tried a few others in that range and they all go there. Also, I've mentioned in a couple places before, but various US-TX servers also act like they're in Europe, even though they do initially appear to be in the US, because even though browserleaks shows the Texas ones as a US IP, the network shows some European company so some sites treat them like Europe.

Basically my stance. Do I like all the anti-competitive crap they pull? Absolutely not. But they do still make and/or publish most of my favorite franchises. This isn't like, say, Microsoft or Google who bake their evil directly into their products.

Seems even more odd because to my eyes Nintendo probably had a better (but not super-good) chance of winning on copyright for some of the models used on the Pals than anything patent related. Stuff like riding/transforming mount animals and vehicles are basic exploration gaming functions. If they failed to defend the patent on other prior games that used those mechanics, they don't really stand a chance here.

Total Agree on the Jets. You mess up with that many rookie QBs, it's likely not poor drafting that's to blame, you definitely look at the coaching situation. Take the guy who is starting for my Vikings as an example: Sam Darnold. He failed with the Jets and Panthers, had some good signs of improvement under Shanahan with San Fran but was still backup to Purdy because Purdy is just good, and now (granted only 2-game sample size so far) may be having his comeback moment ala Mayfield last year with Minnesota under KOC, a former quarterbacks coach, who also was able to get a few solid games out of Josh Dobbs with little to no prep time and was himself planning on not throwing JJ McCarthy to the wolves right away. A coach who knows how to handle the QB position can make a world of difference to new QBs coming into the league and supposed "bust" QBs who weren't handled well early but may still have potential.

If they're just scraping tweets, it's probably looking at mentions of a million and one regular guys in the US named Sam Fisher and not the character.
Since I started using Proton VPN, I've been using it to watch my favorite baseball team in my area and get around cable blackouts. However, today it appears MLB.TV has been able to find my location and black me out. I tried using 3 different servers and checked the geolocation on Browserleaks to verify that my IP was not leaking. One note: despite being listed as in the US state of Georgia, one server showed on Browserleaks as being in the UK, so you may want to double-check location anyway. I'm trying a reboot and if that fails I'll also try again tomorrow to see if somehow it's a strange anomaly. I've found that to happen with another VPN I used in the past. EDIT: a reboot worked and it works now at least on the Colorado server I'm on. I do remember when looking at Browserleaks before rebooting that even when the location was picked up as in the US, it mentioned something about Europe in the company, so maybe the site still picked it up as in Europe?
The updater extension keeps telling me that there is a new version of the browser available (122.1.0-2) but it's been over a week since the version's release and even though I have the .deb repo installed the new version has not been installed yet. I check for updates daily and there do not appear to be any errors in the repo. Has the new version been updated on the repo? If it has, any idea why it would not update? EDIT: The update to v123 came through today. You can disregard.
I got this email earlier today in my inbox and wanted to be sure that this was not an attempted phishing scam. I didn't see anything about this on Proton's website, Reddit or Lemmy, so just wanted to cover my bases. Didn't click the link and just went straight to Proton's website to download the latest version and install (while also uninstalling the Flatpak I was previously using). If this is legit, Proton should probably make it more visible to the community by at least addressing it on their own website. EDIT: I also checked the version number on the Flatpak and on the .deb versions I installed and it did indeed go up by one, so this does seem to lend it more legitimacy, but more acknowledgement would still be appreciated. EDIT 2: According to comment below, this is indeed legit, thank you! If you're using the Windows or Linux version be sure to do the update!
I've been wanting to use the Falkon browser as my daily driver because I like the integration with the Plasma desktop and it works quite well for most things, but I've been hesitant to do so because there are so few extensions and the only privacy-focused one is the AdBlock. I've tried using GreaseMonkey scripts, but half of the few privacy-focused scripts I've found just don't work and I'm not good enough with scripting to really figure out why. I've set what I could in the Preferences menu for privacy, but I'm wondering if there is any way to access other settings to do things like disable WebGL and/or otherwise block trackers and prevent fingerprinting? If I can set it up to be reasonably close to Brave or LibreWolf privacy-wise, I'd be happy to use it more.
