Isn’t this eugenics with extra steps?

(In order) Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia (or maybe more specifically the Soloman Islands), Fiji and the cherry on top of this shit sundae New Zealand. Half of these are Muslim majority countries. IMAGINE
I notice Singapore is excluded which is fucking hilarious considering that it's the only country in this region that has an actual history of espionage against Australia.

The biggest problem with the show was that it just became incomprehensible- by the end no one knew what any characters motivations were, never mind who was aligned with what faction. So the ending just became this slog where the characters might as well have been ad-libbing a script.
Also yeah the entire "the MC decides that the only solution to his problems is The Final Solution" is one whole other can of worms.
The only good thing that came out of the show was Egoist (and the music in general).

To be fair to Ranma that story is basically 35 years old now and was considered progressive back then

I haven't heard anything about it one way or the other (and I haven't seen it myself yet) - either it's played it safe and stuck to the source material (which is weird, because if I'm not wrong they changed the setting of the story to Saudi Arabia, because the show is funded by Saudi oil money or something really whack like that) or there isn't really anything going on beyond Super Robot Saves the World.
Everything I've heard about SEED Freedom makes me think that I'd rather dig my own eyeballs out with a rusty spoon than watch it, though.

Idk if I'm qualified to speak on this, but imo I think there's enough going on in the show that I'd still generally recommend it, despite it's problematic parts.
The show's about adolescents dealing with sexuality and growing up, and coping with the kind of societal expectations gender places on you (the aliens want Momo's uterus, the ghost steals Okarun's wiener). In the quiet moments when Momo and Okarun drop their pretenses and just be themselves and are honest with each other, the story really is quite sweet as a romance and it's maybe pointing to a healthier and more equitable vision of gender relations.
- is my take, but also SA is a very difficult topic that I think the show probably didn't handle as well as it ought to have so yeah if you feel really uncomfortable with the tone I think maybe it's safe to drop

Unfortunately it goes to incredibly stupid (painful) in his next two shows, Guilty Crown and Valverave the Liberator. Both those shows have a kinda light political commentary in the same vein as Code Geass, but they flub it sooooooo hard in very not-fun ways.
Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised Witch from Mercury turned out as well as it did.

This take is bewildering to me, given Yuasa's history and that of the studio he founded. Science Saru exists in part because he thought it was important that more voices exist within Japanese animation- it's one of the few studios with a multi-cultural staff, and when he retired as president he passed the role to Eunyoung Choi, the only Korean woman with any prominence at all in the industry.
The director of Dandandan, Fuga Yamashiro, previously worked on Keep your Hands of Eizouken! and Tatami Time Machine Blues as an assistant director, Dandandan is his directorial debut.

Good, Tomino is too good for that hack sell-out.
(Somewhat ironic, Kawamori is a problematic fave)

ZA/UM itself, or it's shambling corpse.
-
Red Info. The company Kurvitz and Rostov founded after they left ZA/UM, funded by Netease. Unfortunately we don't know much about what they are doing, other than that they have a project. Understandably the legal battle for the rights of Disco Elysium probably came first.
-
Longdue. Unfortunately we know the least about this studio, just some concept art and some PR speak.
-
Dark Math. This studio has a trailer for a game that's um... a little familiar, it's also associated with Kaur Kender who was one of the people involved in the shenanigans that went down at ZA/UM. Article
-
and now Summer Eternal, who don't have a trailer or proof of concept or pretty much anything except a manifesto (and are therefore the true inheritors of the crown, imo). That said, they're explicitly set up as a worker's co-op with a structure that's designed to prevent a hostile takeover, so it seems some hard lessons have been learnt
The scuttlebutt is that ZA/UM's non-compete clause for their ex-staff expired today, which is the reason for all these announcements, but that's speculation that can't be corroborated so take it with a pinch of salt.
>Tuulik even had a message for his former colleagues (“comrades”) at ZA/UM, including Kurvitz and Rostov: >“To all other former respected comrades (Kurvitz, Rostov, everyone) – long time no hear, but we would love for you to join the struggle as well: time to roll up our sleeves and start building communism!”

Kurvitz and Rostov have their own company, Red Info ltd. that is funded by Netease and is apparently working on something, but we probably won't get more news until the legal trouble with Disco Elysium itself is resolved
Let a hundred flowers bloom >There are now as many ZA/UM successors as there are Workers' Internationals, appropriately enough. is a pretty legit byline, gee thanks based Proletarian Communist Gamer magazine
Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction Ep 14 Direct quote from the episode: ::: spoiler spoiler >That Mothership in Japan is like a kid... who hasn't gotten laid! >...and is about to shoot it's load! It's true! We're leaders of the free world! That's us!' :::
Okay, so I never really wrote it down, but what I really really really love about CSM is how Fujimoto takes really simple, easily understood metaphors and just uses them to brutally illustrate our condition under late capitalism Making literal deals with devils... Just, man, this manga is just so peak ![denji-just-like-me](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fe4ba3576-82ea-4485-bc9c-b96fd95eaa20.png "emoji denji-just-like-me")
Dead Dead Demon's Dedede Destruction is an amazing show. It's a bit heavy to watch though, considering current events. ![yamagami](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Ff09f0d9a-a5a6-4489-9629-3d676b8166b4.png "emoji yamagami")

I did not have this on my 2024 bingo card, ngl. I suddenly understand what Mark Fisher was yappin' about with Hauntology. The show is like carbon monoxide. It's very peaceful.
![posad](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/7b32834d-2be4-4b3d-8df0-9a61547a3c62.png "emoji posad") The first screen treatment is kinda whack. Second had potential as a kinda "White People Get Colonised" allegory like War of the Worlds until this banger dropped: >There was no longer private property and I just lost it Edit: Oh shit the Galactic Emperor is Literally Hitler I'm fucking dying why wasn't this greenlit Edit2: Oh god we almost had *another* live-action Gundam like G-Saviour, with even worse computer graphics
I've heard good things about Inio Asano's works, but because I choose to be illiterate I've never read any of them- I'm really looking forward to this adaptation to finally see what all the fuss is about
Lol. Lmao. In the funniest timeline, the US nationalizes Nvidia to delay China from making chips that work well with LLM's... by a year tops. [Link to original Fortune article the PC Gamer article pulled from, with this juicy relevant quote:](https://fortune.com/2023/12/02/ai-chip-export-controls-china-nvidia-raimondo/) >To do that, Raimondo said the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, which manages export controls for the US, needs more funding from Congress. >“I have a $200 million budget. That’s like the cost of a few fighter jets. Come on,” she said. “If we’re serious, let’s go fund this operation like it needs to be funded.”
Gonna be adapted by Science Saru (Keep your Hands off Eiszouken!)
