I just finished Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, saw an earlier thread discussing earlier episodes, figured it's worth discussing now that it's all out. Obviously spoilers for season 2. (I'll dump my thoughts in a comment below.)

what an amazing dramedy. especially the first several seasons. so many wonderful characters, it really has something for everyone. buttery voiced john corbetts seamless radio-narration and its philosophical bent fits right in with a town full of quirky personalities. the indigenous population playing a wonderful straight-man to the town. it even holds up well. the remoteness denotes a lack of tech that isnt too far out of place today. this is one of those shows where you just want to be a part of it. it could also never be replicated/rebooted successfully... lighting striking twice and all that. anyone else have such fond memories of _[northern exposure](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098878/)_? im about to start my per-decade rewatch.

Carl Kolchak is a reporter for a Chicago newspaper. Through more accident than design he ends up investigating homicides, many of which involve supernatural forces. Ultimately, rather than reporting on the crimes, he solves them. -- Came across this show recently and it has been a hilarious watch, especially for October! My partner is a journalist and gets quite a kick out of it! If you are an X-Files fan you might be interested, as Chris Carter cited Kolchak as a "tremendous influence" in creating his franchise The X-Files. It's available via Peacock or the high seas :) Enjoy!

Kind of funny to see people physically exchange boxes of DVDs like we used too, but definitely makes sense in our current environment

TV shows constantly make stuff up that doesn't reflect reality, so when we see something in a show that doesn't seem real, we naturally assume that it was made up. But sometimes it turns out that the show was actually referencing something or some event from the real world that was real, just not that commonly known, or at least not known to you. For example, many people first found out about the Tulsa race massacre from the Watchmen TV series, and at first assumed it was an invention of the show. It was a huge indictment on the American education system that such a horrific event was so obscure until then. So what other things that seemed like they were made up did you later find out were actually real?
